Morristown-Hamblen Hospital Foundation’s GALA
The MHHS GALA committee would still like to recognize some very important community leaders at this time. The 2020 “Exceptional Commitment to Healthcare Award” honors surgeon Tom C. Thompson, MD, FACS. Dr. Thompson has been practicing for over 25 years and has dedicated himself to his patients and his community to improve healthcare in our region. He not only provides quality care, but shows a deep passion and commitment for each and every one of his patients. Dr. Thompson graduated from the University of Tennessee Health and Science Center College of Medicine and is a general surgery specialist at Surgical Associates of East Tennessee here in Morristown. At Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System, Dr. Tom C. Thompson means so much to our staff, his patients, and our community and we thank Dr. Thompson for his exceptional commitment to healthcare in our region!
As the only hospital in the Lakeway area, Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System provides excellent healthcare to residents throughout our eight-county service area by offering comprehensive cancer care, heart-lung and vascular care, women’s services general surgery, orthopedic, emergency treatment and critical care. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, community and sponsors, our Foundation is able to support our hospital by funding programs, continuing education and medical equipment needs at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System.
Speaking of generosity, we also recognize and extend our sincere gratitude to Jefferson Federal Charitable Foundation for being our 2020 Premiere GALA Sponsor this year. The foundation’s continued commitment to making a difference in the health of our community has led many other businesses and individuals to join us in our fundraising efforts. That leadership continues to be critically important, particularly now during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their financial support of our fundraising efforts, like the GALA, will allow us to purchase a critical piece of patient care technology for Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System, an ultrasound for intravenous (IV) line placement. The ultrasound helps clinicians visualize the vascular anatomy and identify the best possible location to insert an IV in patients with veins that may be small or difficult to access. Ultrasound-guided peripheral IVs are becoming the standard of care for patients in the emergency department and critical care unit. At MHHS, more than 43,000 individuals seek care in our emergency department each year. Many of these patients require IV placement during their care to administer fluids and medications critical to their recovery. Use of ultrasound guidance in the MHHS emergency department will improve patient satisfaction, reduce patient stress, reduce the chance of infection and alleviate the frustration that may come for the staff, patient, and family members when repeated, painful attempts at IV placement are required. We recognize Jefferson Federal Charitable Foundation for their generous support and say thank you for continuing to be a champion for better healthcare at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System and in our community.
